Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Not what I expected - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Wife and I purchased this jeep in Jan 2011 to replace a 2 seat ford ranger with a 4 x 4 family car. there have been issues with driver side window, alternator, water pump, low tire pressure sensors, and nothing is a cheap fix. the center brake light is about 80 dollars unless you get lucky and find it on ebay, it requires a $100 wire harness to put in an aftermarket stereo, mine did not have a luggage rack and they are hundreds of dollars to add. Some times it just goes out of gear when driving...kinda scary. Now the lights that light up the A/c controls are have burned out and they are soldered to a computer chip board and to replace them you have to purchase a new board. Be weary of thiscar

Worst automobile I have ever owned. So many problems ranging from axle isolators (second repair)to interior parts such as door panels (all of them) breaking, vent tabs falling off, nav system inoperative (2nd unit), window switches inop on driver door, front driveshaft replaced, brake calipers froze up, Try replacing a starter as you will need to grow two additional hands to help. Cant say much good about this automobile. Even the resale value stinks.

  • BRAKES - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I too have had the nightmare of worn brake pads, rotors, etc. about every 5000 miles. I found out right away the dealership is not motivated to fix anything, just replace everything. After numerous attempts to resolve the problem, I took the car to a neighborhood mechanic who simply found the problem. The calipers are not designed well and the caliper pins stick which causes the pads and rotors to wear/warp. When I took the car to him the pads were shot from the previous attempt to fix the problem. This mechanic replaced the pads under the lifetime warranty provision and then cleaned the calipers and greased the pins. I have not had a problem since.

  • DONT BUY ONE!!! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This was the second Jeep Cherokee that I have owned, the first was a 1985 2- door Pioneer. This one was nothing but problems, transmission, radiator, stalling, etc... The vehicle was towed twice (the roadside assistance was the only thing I could rely on!). Gas mileage combined never was better than 16.1 mpg. The Goodyear tires spin on the first sign of a damp road. I traded the Jeep with 9,500 miles for a Volvo S60 AWD, awesome car! It will get me through the NE weather just fine without havinf to walk.

  • They Are LEMONS - Buyer Beware - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

    >1yr. old-rotors have been replaced Jeep has been recalled potential fire hazard - transmission jumps, lunges, bangs into gear at almost any speed. Dealership said this is normal for electronic transmission. BS. Safety is a major concern when a 4000 pound vehicle lunges into gear at speeds around 60 mph. DiamlerChrysler has called this violent jerking motion a "burp" and a "bump". Market value is adversely affected by this defect. They tried to fix the defect one time by installing spider gears that did nothing. After that they decided it wasnt a problem after all. Dummies, why try to fix something if nothing is wrong? DO NOT BUY THE NEWER JEEPS

  • Dont Buy One - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This has been the worst vehicle we have ever owned and are in the process of getting rid of this junk. Poor quality. Since day one the car has had a very hard pull to the right. The Jeep has been to the dealer about 8 times for the pull and for brakes. They have been very uncooperative and told me the pull was normal....yea right.

  • Junk that looks nice - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 2nd JEEP GC Limited, and am not impressed. I had a 2003 GC Limited, and was not happy with the reliability. So I drove a Nissan for almost 3 years, and of course no problems. I decided I liked the HEMI power and looks of the new design, and assumed they would have made the reliability better, but in my case, it is worse. Starter went at 15,000 miles, 2 Stem Valve Sensors, Crankshaft Sensor, missing Radiator fluid, and now needs a new Manifold gasket at 30,000 miles. Today I traded it in on a new Toyota TRD Tacoma. I once again tried to support American cars, but I cannot afford to anymore, my time is money, and I spend most of it in the shop with a JEEP!

First of all, I know nothing about mechanics. But I have had problems with my Jeep from day one. First day I had it would not shift past 35 mph, it got worse and I had to call roadside assistance. They sent a tow truck from out of town so it took over an hour. Turns out something was wrong with the transmission. Then all winter long the service 4 wheel drive light would come on, dealer could never find the problem. October 2006 it started stalling as I drive at low speeds. Again dealer cant find the problem it now does this at least once a week and Ive been told theres nothing they can do. Its been to the dealership for leaks around the sunroof and windshield 3xs.

  • DOORS NOT FLUSH TO FRAME - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have had my Jeep in the shop 6 times to adjust the drivers door frame. When it snows or rains it builds up in all four doors. When on the highway wind blows in around the frame. The strike plate on the drivers side continuously needs adjustments. The dealer tells me this frame problem witht the doors is normal. I have owned 3 SUV and never had this problem. I am pretty disgusted.. I would like to hear from a JEEP representative to discuss these problems.

  • TOTALLY DISSATIFIED - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my first American car and after 22months and 20,000mile my water pump, disc brakes and now my cam lifters has to be replaced. Thank God the car is still under warranty. This car has too many repairs and recall which I didnt mention. For such a stylish looking and pricey car, I you would think since jeep has been at this for such a long time they would have made a better product. Jeep doesnt needs these problems just correct them and you will be on top for a very very long time.
